DESIGN BRIEF
To design uniforms for the entire staff, managerial, administrative and service personnel. The theme of the interiors was the old British Raj.
DESIGN INTERPRETATION
The central theme of the British Raj was picked upon to design uniforms for the staff. The designs were done in the period style of the Indians in the British era.
A cool color story of Jade green and beige was chosen for summer for all the uniforms to blend in with the décor of the hotel.
For winter, rustic browns and rich maroons of the British era were used in the uniforms with big buttons and cummerbunds with tassels to create a majestic look.
In a hotel, where functionality of the uniforms are of prime importance Angarkhas and sherwanis with turbans were made for the administrative personnel for a royal look. For winter the style was done in hand-woven wool.
Long Kurtas with cummerbunds and turbans for the waiters and short bandgalas with pockets for the housekeeping staff completed the period styling of the whole hotel.
For winter they had jacket with steel buttons.

UNIFORM DESIGN FOR COTTAGES SHIMLA
DESIGN BRIEF
To design three sets of uniforms for different cottages in a resort with different themes INDIAN, CONTEMPORARY and RAJASTHANI.
DESIGN INTERPRETATION
For all the cottages completely different fabric and design was done with different color stories to go with the decor.
The Indian uniform was done as a long kurta and pyjami with a turban. For winter handwoven wollen fabric was used as an over kurta.
The contemporary uniform was a crisp shirt and trouser and was done in beiges and off whites.
For winter a fawn blazer was included.
The Rajasthani uniform was a gathered angarkha style short kurti with a dhoti, done in beige and ink blue. The winter uniform had a warm bandgala jacket made in handwoven wool.
COSTUME DESIGN FOR INDO FRENCH OPERA ‘FAKIR OF BENARAS’
DESIGN BRIEF
To design the costumes for a period based drama set on the Benaras ghats for an Indo French opera for a three hundred actors and actress.
DESIGN INTERPRETATION
The opera was set in the Benaras ghats in the eighteenth century. Cotton voils and cottons were the fabrics used intensively in that period and they were chosen for the costumes. Silhouettes were extensive drapes for the women and angarkhas and dhotis for the common man. For the well to do men there were brocades and bandgalas.
As majorities of the cast were of foreign origin, saris and dhotis were pre draped. Apart from these, costumes had to be done for two sets of dancers, kathak and modern dancers. These had to fit with the costumes yet allow complete fluidity in the movements. For these rich silk organzas were chosen along with soft cotton voils to make layered dresses for the girls and dhotis for the men.

TAO RESTAURANT / UNIFORMS
DESIGN BRIEF
The basic restaurant was done. Tables and chairs and kitchen had already been set up. It was required to introduce some elements to bring out the oriental ambience to go with the cuisine.
Uniforms for the two hostesses had to be done.
DESIGN INTERPRETATION
As the furniture was already in place, the colors of the walls were painted a deep brick red so the lighting would give out the oriental ambience of red. A giant brass statue of Buddha was placed in a central niche at a position of maximum visibility so that for a customer entering, this would be the first point of focus.
A screen with Thai carving was separated and divided to form three wall panels.
Lighting was placed in hidden niches to complete the ambience.
The fabric for the uniform was sourced from Kalimpong, where one gets Chinese fabrics. A Chinese cheosm of red brocade was made fitted to size for the two hostesses who greet the customers and note down their orders.
MYSTICURE SPA / UNIFRORMS FOR MASSEURES
To design uniforms for masseurs for Mysticure, an ayurvedic spa with a chain of spas in five star hotels like Intercontinental, in Delhi, Chennai, etc…
DESIGN BRIEF
As they work extensively with oils, the fabric had to be easily cleaned and very durable. Prime importance was low maintenance.
DESIGN INTERPRETATION
As the masseurs have to stretch and move around extensively while massaging, the uniform had to have enough ease and comfort for them. The color blended fabric for the Ayurvedic massage of Indian design, the style interpreted to portray the angarkha style neck which was quilted with a maroon anchor thread on the collar and curved placket to give it a crisp smart look. The length for men was below the knees with narrow pyjamas. For women, the kurta was above knee with narrow pyjamas. Maroon color was chosen to match the badge color which all had to wear. A thick canvas apron was added so the uniforms had extra protection.
TT FOOT CARE/ UNIFRORMS FOR MASSEURES
To design uniforms forms for Masseurs for TT foot care, a company with spas specializing in Shiatsu the Japanese foot massage treatment.
DESIGN BRIEF
As the masseurs have to stretch and move around extensively while massaging, the uniform had to have enough ease and comfort for them.
DESIGN INTERPRETATION
The Spa specializes in Japanese foot massage treatment. The décor of the spas were oriental so the uniforms were given an oriental look. As the massage uses water instead of oil, an off white color was chosen for the uniforms. Chinese collars with yellow piping and yellow Chinese loops for detailing were incorporated. The top was hip length with loose oriental wrap pyjamas which allowed the masseurs to move and stretch in comfort.
An apron in navy blue was added to the uniform with yellow piping and a big pocket with the logo in yellow.
